Creating your Business Logo
Your business logo is a representation of your business brand. It must be unique, simple and easily recognizable. It should be high-resolution and in a vector format.
Remember, your logo is not just going to be on your website. It will be on your packaging, invoices, business cards, social media platforms, and banners, as well as any promotional merchandise you produce. Therefore, think carefully when creating your business logo because changing it can cost you a lot of time and money.
You should have already settled on the color palette for your website. Your logo should therefore match your web theme. It can be an image, text, or a combination of both.
You can create your own logo using an online generator tool. Just search under the term, “Logo Design Maker”. These websites let you select your design from a set of pre-populated images and set your own fonts, colors and layouts. You can build the logo on these sites for free, but will need to pay in order to download the logos for use on your website.
To get your desired logo, play with different images and fonts. Design the logo in several variations and color schemes.
Alternatively, you can design your own business logo using royalty-free vector images. Vector images can be edited when opened in editing suites like Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and InDesign.
Consider placing your company slogan beneath the logo on your website. This will be your Unique Selling Proposition (USP). For example, “Quality Products at Divine Prices”.
What makes a truly great logo
How to manually resize your logo
Your content management system (CMS) usually allocates a fixed size for your logo. If you want to adjust the size of your logo so that it fits the page, you should be able to resize it by accessing your hosting account File Manager and then amending the content-type Header section in your header file.
Here is the code snippet:
<!DOCTYPE html <html lang="en-US"> <head profile="http://www.yourwebsitename.com/profile"> <img src="https://yourwebsitename.com/yourlogo.png" width="250" height="60" alt=" yourlogo"> </head> </html>
How to add a favicon to your website
To add your image logo, so that it appears in the page tab of your website, you can convert the image to a shortcut icon, also known as a favicon, using an online Favicon Generator Tool. Size 16px x 16px tends to work best.
How to manually add a favicon to your website
If you cannot upload your favicon from your CMS, you can upload it to the relevant folder in the File Manager of your hosting account dashboard, e.g. cPanel. You may have to upload it to a designated image folder where you upload all your image files, or you may add it to the root directory of your website, i.e. wwwroot.
If you have uploaded your favicon to your root directory, find the <head> section in your Header file and add the following HTML code:
<!DOCTYPE html> <html lang="en-US"> <head profile="http://www.yourwebsitename.com/profile"> <link rel="icon" type="image/ico" href="http://yourwebsitename.com/favicon.ico" /> </head> </html>
